Automatic for the People terms and conditions:

VOLUNTARY CODE OF PRACTICE:

We follow the DSA’s voluntary code of practice for driving instructors. If you require a full copy of this code, please ask, or contact the DSA directly. If you have any cause for complaint, please speak to your driving instructor.   If you are still unhappy then the code of practice will give you information regarding the next step to take.

DRIVING LICENCE

You must be 17 or over and you must hold a current valid driving licence, provisional or full, or International licence and be able to produce it on or before the first lesson and any time thereafter. You must also be fit to drive.  You can apply for a provisional 3 months before your 17th birthday. Forms are available at the Post Office.

PAYMENT AND METHODS OF PAYMENT

Payment should always be made in cash or by cheque with a valid guarantee card at the beginning of the lesson.  Please note that all fees paid for lessons and courses are non-refundable in the event that you decide to cancel the course or the lesson.

TUITION

Tuition will be on a one to one basis, unless otherwise agreed.  The start and end location of each lesson will be the same unless arranged in advance with your instructor.

Your instructor will do everything possible to ensure that your lessons start and finish on time, but reserves the right to cancel, postpone or change lesson lengths and start/finish times under certain circumstances (e.g., dangerous weather conditions). In the event of postponement fees paid in advance will be carried forward.

The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson at short notice if it is suspected that the pupil may be unfit due to the effects of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise) or any other condition that would cause his/her driving to be dangerous or illegal. In such circumstances the lesson fee will be payable.

POSTPONEMENT OR CANCELLATION OF BOOKINGS

To be fair to us, please give us 48 hours notice of any time change or cancellation of lesson. This is due to the effect on instructors’ livelihoods and could be denying another client the opportunity for a lesson that they desperately want.   A cancellation fee of £20 will be charged for cancellations where less than 48 hours notice has been given and will be at the sole discretion of your instructor.

LESSON DURATION

Lesson times will be ninety (90) or one hundred and twenty (120) minutes in duration, anything other will be agreed mutually by the instructor and client.

CAR INSURANCE

Tuition cars are fully insured for tuition and driving tests with a reputable insurer and the relevant certificate of insurance will be made available for inspection upon request.

DRIVING TESTS

Automatic for the People reserves the right, in the interests of public safety, to withdraw the use of a driving school vehicle if, in the instructor’s opinion, the pupil is not ready for a practical test.  We will guide and advise you at all stages of your training as to readiness for practical tests.  This guidance should be followed.

A standard 2 and a quater hour fee (£48.00) for use of tuition vehicle applies to all practical tests.  Introductory or special offers cannot be used in conjunction with driving tests.

If you wish to cancel your theory/hazard perception or practical test appointment, you must abide by the cancellation terms set out by the DSA and inform your instructor as per terms described above.  For full details see your booking confirmation or the DSA website at www.dsa.gov.uk or ask your instructor.

YOUR  RIGHTS

You have the right to reasonably expect your instructor to abide by the same conditions in terms of cancellations.  Conduct of your instructor is to follow guidelines described in part one.
